The honest part, from two years of matching companion breeds to families: the Havanese is a true velcro dog, and we use that term precisely. It follows you from room to room, settles wherever you settle, and measures a good day in hours spent near its people. In a home with daytime company that devotion is the entire appeal; in an empty weekday flat it curdles into distress. This page says so twice because it is the one thing that decides the match.

Can a Havanese Be Left Alone During Work Hours?
Here's the honest version: this is a company-first breed, and a home that is empty 8am to 6pm every weekday is the wrong home for it. A hybrid or flexible routine can work, with alone-time trained gradually from week one, real engagement before and after work, and enrichment during, but the Havanese will never be the breed that treats an empty flat as nap time.
