What is a Cavachon?

A Cavachon is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise: roughly 5 to 9 kg of soft, wavy, low-shedding coat around one of the gentlest temperaments in the small-dog world. Both parents were bred purely for companionship, and the cross inherits that double dose, with a lifespan of 12 to 15 years.

Curious Tails is an AVS licensed pet shop at 2 Balestier Road. We match by lifestyle first, and the Cavachon is our answer for homes with daytime company that want the gentlest possible family puppy in a low-shedding coat.

Cavachon Temperament: Two Companion Breeds, One Gentle Result

Most crosses blend a companion breed with a working one. The Cavachon blends two dogs that were each bred for centuries to do nothing but be wonderful company, the Cavalier from English courts, the Bichon from Mediterranean merchant ships, and the result is exactly what you'd predict: the gentlest, most people-oriented cross in our shop. It loves children, accepts other pets, greets visitors like returning family, and barks so little that "watchdog" doesn't appear anywhere in this page.

The honest part, from two years of matching crosses to families: all that devotion needs somewhere to go. A Cavachon does best in a home with daytime company, a family with staggered schedules, someone working from home, a helper, or retirees, and the homes we've placed them in that work all share that trait. The Bichon Frise side adds a sunnier adaptability than the purebred Cavalier, but this is still a dog that measures its day in proximity to you.

Every Cavachon litter also spreads between its parents, some pups landing bouncier and more Bichon, some softer and more Cavalier. We watch each litter daily and will tell you honestly where each puppy sits.

Can a Cavachon Be Left Alone During Work Hours?

Moderately at best, and we'd rather lose the sale than dress that up. The Bichon half softens the Cavalier's famous neediness, so a Cavachon copes better than a purebred Cavalier, but a flat that is empty 8am to 6pm every weekday is still the wrong home for this cross, and the crying and chewed corners are how owners find out.

If your weekdays are away, the Cavapoo carries similar sweetness with genuinely better independence, and we'll tell you the same at the shop. If someone's usually home, read on; this is your breed's page.

Good fit if

  • Someone is home for part of most days
  • Family with children; gentleness is the priority
  • You want low-shedding without terrier energy

Cavachon Size, Coat and Lifespan

Honest numbers for the teddy-bear cross.

Cavachon Size, Coat and Lifespan
TraitWhat to expect
Adult weightRoughly 5 to 9 kg, depending on both parents
HeightAround 30 to 33 cm at the shoulder
CoatSoft, wavy, low-shedding; apricot, cream, white, sable, and Blenheim-style chestnut markings
Lifespan12 to 15 years with good care
ExerciseAbout 30 to 40 minutes a day, plus indoor play; a flat is genuinely enough
Shedding & allergiesLow-shedding; a friendly pick for allergy-sensitive homes, though no dog is allergen-free

How big do Cavachons get? Most land between 5 and 9 kg, sturdier than the true toys, small enough for any flat. If you love this recipe with a dash more Poodle cleverness, that's literally the Cavapoochon, the triple cross next door.

Cavachon Price in Singapore: What You’ll Pay and What’s Included

Most shops make you WhatsApp them just to learn the number. Here's ours in writing: $3,688 to $5,988, all-in.

Typical Singapore market

  • Cavachon price commonly $2,500 to $5,500
  • Price usually not published; enquiry required
  • Designer-cross premium for rare colours
  • Starter supplies, training and delivery charged separately

Curious Tails

  • $3,688 to $5,988, printed right here
  • $500+ starter kit with 30+ items included
  • Free home delivery with the playpen set up before you arrive
  • Free first lesson with an AVS-certified trainer, plus free boarding after deposit

Why is our price printed? We don't carry the marketing spend the bigger names do, and we'd rather win on value and word of mouth. Compare the full picture on our transparent puppy pricing page, and plan the ongoing costs with the first-year puppy budget guide.

The $500+ Starter Kit Every Cavachon Goes Home With

Every Cavachon leaves us with a starter kit worth $500 and up: more than 30 items across eight categories, a playpen, a carrier, grooming tools, small-breed puppy food, outdoor gear, toilet training supplies, oral health care, and toys. For this cross the brush and the ear cleanser earn their keep fastest: the soft coat wants regular attention, and those Cavalier-style drop ears want a weekly check in our humidity.

On delivery day, Nelson or Kim walks you through every item: how to use it, and how it fits into your Cavachon's daily care. Most of the questions new owners would otherwise ask later are answered before we leave your home.

See the full 30+ item kit breakdown, category by category.

Is a Cavachon Right for Your Lifestyle?

We ask about your routine before recommending any breed. Here's the honest short version for a Cavachon.

Is a Cavachon Right for Your Lifestyle?
Your situationOur honest take
Family with children, someone home part of the dayIdeal. The gentlest cross we carry, in its natural habitat
First-time owner wanting a soft, forgiving dogGreat fit. Eager, gentle, and kind to beginner mistakes
Allergy-sensitive householdGood fit. Low-shedding coat; visit first if allergies are severe
Out 8am to 6pm on weekdaysReconsider honestly. This cross needs company; the Cavapoo handles that routine far better
You want a watchdogWrong breed entirely. A Cavachon greets burglars; consider the Mini Schnauzer

Cavachon vs Cavapoo: The Question Everyone Asks

Same Cavalier mother, different father, and the difference that matters isn't in the photos: it's in your weekday. The Cavapoo's Poodle half brings real self-sufficiency, the ability to treat an empty flat as nap time, and quicker training. The Cavachon's Bichon half brings extra softness and arguably the sweeter temperament of the two, at the cost of needing more company through the day.

Our plain-language rule after placing both for two years: someone home most days and gentleness is the priority, Cavachon. Working household, out 8am to 6pm, Cavapoo, no hesitation. Coats are close, both low-shedding, the Cavachon's usually a touch softer and less curly. With us the price, the starter kit, and the aftercare are identical either way.

Weighing the two? See our Cavapoo puppies, or message us your routine and we'll tell you straight.

Quick comparison

  • Cavachon: softest temperament, wants daytime company
  • Cavapoo: more independent, faster to train
  • Same price, same starter kit, same aftercare either way

Keeping a Cavachon in an HDB flat

The Cavachon is a cross of two HDB-approved breeds, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise, and falls comfortably inside HDB's small-breed rules, the same way our Cavapoos and Maltipoos do. HDB allows one dog of an approved breed per flat, and every Cavachon we place has its dog licensing completed at purchase.

Is a Cavachon HDB-friendly? Yes: both parents are named on the approved list and the cross sits well within the size rules. Mind the one-dog-per-flat rule, and if you already have a dog, message us first so we can check your situation.

Read HDB's guidelines on keeping pets

The rules in brief

  • Both parent breeds are on the HDB-approved list
  • One dog of an approved breed per HDB flat (AVS limits of ownership)
  • Condo and landed homes: up to three dogs, subject to your estate's own pet rules

Source: AVS limits of ownership

Grooming: The Teddy Coat Has a Schedule

The Cavachon's soft, low-shedding coat runs on the same deal as its cousin crosses: hair that doesn't fall out stays in and tangles instead. The schedule that keeps it comfortable in our humidity: a brush every other day, a comb-through to the skin weekly, and a salon groom every 4 to 6 weeks; nearly every Singapore Cavachon lives happily in a puppy cut.

Two ten-second habits round it out: a weekly lift-look-sniff of those drop ears, warmth plus humidity is how ear trouble starts, and a daily eye wipe on light-coloured faces to stay ahead of tear staining. The cleanser and wipes are already in your starter kit.

Cavachon Health: What We Check Before You Take One Home

Every Cavachon goes home vet-checked, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. And because honest pages answer the question buyers actually have: yes, the Cavalier parent carries a known heart condition (mitral valve disease), and crossing to a Cavalier line lowers, but does not erase, that inheritance. The practical habit is the same one we give Cavalier owners: from around age five, make sure the annual vet visit includes a proper listen to the heart. Early detection changes everything, and most Cavachons live their 12 to 15 years untroubled.

The rest is routine small-breed fare: weekly ear care, kneecaps (patellar luxation), and dental habits from day one. Feeding is simple: your puppy comes with the food it is already eating, and any change should be gradual over a week. See the puppy health checks explained guide.

Your Cavachon’s First Week at Home

Day 0: we deliver, free, at a time that suits you, usually morning or evening. The playpen, bed, water, and toys are set up before your Cavachon explores the room, and we walk you through all 30+ starter-kit items in person. Learn more about how our free home delivery and setup works.

Days 1 to 3: keep it calm and close. This cross settles through proximity: the playpen where it can see people, a fixed feeding routine, and the toilet pads where we placed them. Some night whimpering is normal adjustment.

Days 4 to 7: the routine sticks, and two habits start now while they're easy: book your free first lesson with an AVS-certified trainer, and practise short, boring departures, five minutes at a time, so alone-time skills grow before they're ever needed. See what the free AVS-certified training lesson covers.

Buying safely: verify any pet shop's AVS licence first

Before any deposit on a Cavachon, search the seller on the AVS public registry of licensed pet shops. A seller who is not on it is not licensed, whatever the listing claims.

Curious Tails holds AVS pet shop licence AS24J00046. Check us first; an honest shop won't mind, and a genuine seller never will. Puppies sold outside licensed channels are often smuggled without vaccination, and buyers have been fined $7,000 for unknowingly purchasing one. Popular toy crosses like the Cavachon are smuggled often, so check twice here.

Cavachon FAQs

How much does a Cavachon cost in Singapore?

Cavachon prices in Singapore commonly run from around $2,500 to $5,500, and most shops make you enquire just to learn the number. At Curious Tails, Cavachon puppies are $3,688 to $5,988, and that price already includes the $500+ starter kit, free home delivery and setup, and a free first training lesson with an AVS-certified trainer.

Is a Cavachon HDB-approved?

Yes, as an approved cross: the Cavachon is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel × Bichon Frise mix, both parent breeds are named on the HDB-approved list, and the cross sits comfortably inside the small-breed rules, the same way our Cavapoos and Maltipoos do. HDB allows one dog per flat, and we complete the dog licensing for you at purchase.

What is the difference between a Cavachon and a Cavapoo?

Looks aside, the real difference is daytime independence. The Cavapoo's Poodle half gives it a genuine ability to self-occupy through a working household's hours; the Cavachon's Bichon half softens the Cavalier's neediness but doesn't erase it, so it does best with company for part of the day. Coats are similar and both are low-shedding; with us the price, kit and aftercare are identical.

Can a Cavachon be left alone while we are at work?

Moderately at best, and we'd rather say so now. Both parent breeds were bred purely for companionship, and while the Bichon side adds cheerful adaptability, a Cavachon in a home that is empty 8am to 6pm every weekday will struggle. If that is your routine, the Cavapoo is the kinder pick, and we will tell you the same in the shop.

Do Cavachons shed? Are they good for allergies?

Cavachons are low-shedding: the Bichon coat barely drops and the cross usually inherits it. That makes the Cavachon one of the friendlier picks for allergy-sensitive homes, though no dog is truly allergen-free, whatever a listing promises. If allergies are severe, spend time with one at our Balestier shop before deciding.

Are Cavachons good with children?

The softest cross we carry with children, genuinely. Both parents contribute gentleness, and the Cavachon's patience with small hands is the breed's calling card. At 5 to 9 kg it is sturdy enough for family life; supervise as with any puppy, and it thrives.

What happens after I reserve a Cavachon?

You place a deposit, and we board your puppy for free, food and lodging covered, until you're ready. Delivery is scheduled around your availability, and we set up the playpen and walk you through all 30+ starter-kit items before we leave.
