It gets on with everyone, dogs and people alike, and its curiosity makes every day an adventure. Compact, robust and cheerful, it packs a lot of dog into a manageable size.
The honest footnotes, and this breed has real ones. First, the Beagle is a pack hound that hates being alone; it wants company and, ideally, a busy household. Second, it is food-obsessed to a fault, which is a gift for training and a hazard for waistlines and bins. Third, it is independent and scent-driven, so training takes patience and a sense of humour: this is not a Border Collie waiting on your every word.
